For the last 2 years, my boys have played basketball with Upward Sports at the Sparta Church in Sparta, NJ. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Upward Sports. I have never been a part of an organization that is so well run and organized. They make the kids feel like they are professionals, they introduce the kids before the games to music and play music when they return to the court after halftime. The coaches are volunteers who help the kids grow and learn to work together. There is a small religious component to the organization, during practices, they have a 5-minute break where they do a lesson and teach the kids about kindness and respect. During half-time, they play a video about how god shaped an athlete's life. My sons have grown as players and as people. They also raise money through concession sales to support basketball programs in West Virginia. You do not have to be a member of the church or a Sparta resident to play. I suggest giving Upward Basketball a chance. They also have a cheerleading program.
