Sussex County's best picnic spots
Grab and Go to the Park! National Eat Outside Day is the perfect excuse to pack up a picnic and head to the nearest park in Sussex County for an outdoor feast!
Three of the best spots for a picnic in Sussex County? My family loves:
- High Point State Park
A1480 NJ-23 Sussex, NJ
You can picnic right by the lake and playground on the sand or on the grass. There are also pavillions with grills that you can use. You can also rent them for parties. There are also places like Sussex Meat Packing in Wantage to get sandwiches on the way or Up the Creek Cafe in Wantage.
- Buttermilk Falls
Mountain Rd, Walpack Township, NJ
Buttermilk Falls is more of a hiking area but who would not love to stop at the falls have the littles play in the water while enjoying a nice snack. Nothing beats sitting by the falls and listening to the water.
- Creative Playground
A1029 Weldon Rd, Lake Hopatcong, NJ
There is an amazing castle playground set for the kids to have a great time. So sit back relax and watch the kids play.

Take it to the backyard
Rather eat at home? Order takeout and take that picnic right outside on your front stoop, or back lawn! For an at-home outdoor dining feast, my family typically orders takeout from Sussex County’s Tony‘s Pizza, Sussex Meat Packing, or The Quarry Grill.
If time is tight? A simple PBJ on the porch will do the trick just fine!
No matter how you do it, celebrate National Eat Outside Day this year! If you take part, make sure to tag Macaroni KID Sussex in social media posts so we can see how you celebrated in Sussex!
Bon appétit!
