Oh, there is nothing quite like the summer. We all end up making some of our best memories during that special time of year. There are a multitude of fun things to do over the summer, and certainly no shortage of activities available to you and your children. But one of the most exciting and thrilling things for kids over the summer is going to camp!

They can make new friends, reconnect with old ones, and just have a great time together with kids their age! Not only that, there are plenty of reasons to send your child to camp. Sure, they are having fun there, but little do they know that they are also learning important life lessons while they are there! Here are some great reasons why your children should attend a summer camp this year!

1) It Builds Confidence In Themselves And Push Boundaries

There are so many fun activities to do at camp. Some of them can include sports, creating things, arts and crafts, and much more. These kinds of activities are great for building self-esteem in children. When they learn something new, their confidence increases by leaps and bounds.

Learning a new skill can be incredibly exciting for a child. Who knows, it might just even foster a lifelong love of that skill. But when they are at camp, counselors often give children a gentle nudge in the direction of doing something new, even if they don’t like the idea at the beginning. Who knows, you never know if it could one day turn into a hobby, a business, the sky is the limit.

2) Building Social Skills And Forging New Friendships

While it may seem a little bit scary at first, attending camp can help your children to form friendships that very may well last a lifetime. Sure, it makes them take a step outside of their social comfort zone, but in the end, they will thank you.

Children are able to connect with other like-minded children who share the same interests as them. Through doing so they can learn more about themselves, and their personalities will blossom as well.

3) It Teaches Them Skills That Can Be Applied In The Real World

Typically at camp, there are a variety of different things that are taught. Each group of children gets a turn at learning these skills. It can be a number of things that they learn about. For example, children can be taught how to hike, look for different things in nature, learn how to identify certain plants, and more.

Gardening and cultivating their own vegetables and fruits can give them a real sense of satisfaction. Perhaps they will have a chance to prepare their own meals, as well. Lighting fires and telling stories, there are so many things that kids can learn about. When they come home, they will be pumped to show off their new skills to their family and friends, and use them often.

4) Learning To Work In Teams

Life is not always easy. But we do not have to do things alone, and this is a skill that your child will learn at camp! Children will learn how to work in teams in order to complete certain activities or competitions.

If your child is attending a sleepaway camp, it is likely that they will be housed with other children. So they will definitely have to learn how to work together to cohabitate peacefully with one another. It is a skill that will come in handy for the rest of their lives, as they move onto adulthood.

5) Being Unplugged

We all know these days that so many kids are hooked on cell phones, tablets, and computers. When they attend summer camp, sometimes either electronics are not allowed or are only allowed during a certain time of day. This gives children a chance to “unplug.”

Doing so gives them the time to reconnect with the beauty of nature. From going for walks to playing tag or capture the flag. Maybe it is sitting by the campfire enjoying a smore or two. Kids can just be, well, kids without the influence of electronics, video games, and social media.

6) Because It’s FUN!

There is a certain thrill about going to camp every day and seeing their friends. Kids know that they are going to have a day that is filled with playing and just enjoying themselves all around. Each day they will come home (or call if its a sleepaway camp) and regale you with the exciting activities that they did that day.

Overall, summer camp is something that your child will remember for a lifetime. They will come out on the other side of it more confident, skilled and happy when they attend any type of camp.
