Heal Yourself with Reiki

The Tree of Health Center

I begin each day by giving myself a ‘dose’ of Reiki. Reiki is a method of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The technique was developed in Japan and is administered by the “laying on of hands”. It is based on the idea that all living things have a special energy flowing through them called life energy.

When my life energy is high, I feel strong and confident, more relaxed and centered, and I AM less likely to get sick. When my energy is low, I will often feel tired, more easily affected by stress, and I am less resistant to illness. A Reiki treatment is a way of increasing my life energy.

I began to embrace this practice in my 40’s, a year after learning about Reiki during a weekend elective during my course work for massage therapy.  Forty-plus years earlier, I had been diagnosed for a chronic condition, ulcerative colitis, and with each pregnancy, my condition worsened.  Ironically, I would later piece together the puzzle of when I first experienced symptoms of this condition - at 16 years old, I had been date-raped, and ended up pregnant, giving my baby up for adoption.

After years of hospitalization, steroids, and gastrointestinal spasms, I stopped medical treatment and began healing my body through self-healing with Reiki.  This worked for me, and I have experienced the depth that Reiki can calm the nervous system, to help humans and animals return to a more balanced state.

Reiki is an intelligent energy that knows exactly where it needs to flow.  It does not need to be directed or guided, and as a Reiki practitioner, I act as a conduit for divine light to flow freely.  I feel truly blessed to have been a part of so many lives to help ease the pain and suffering of the spirit, mind, and body.

Let me share some examples:

I went to the wake of an oncology client, whom I was brought in to treat during the latent stage of her cancer.  Her husband shared that his wife looked forward to our sessions, as it was the only thing that brought her relief and peace at that point in her journey.

Another time, I was dog-sitting for Oliver, a schnauzer/terrier mix, who was enjoying the outdoors when a frantic doe, looking for her fawn, chased the dog into the bushes.  Oliver was traumatized and came limping toward me.  Once it seemed nothing was broken, I immediately got to work - Oliver allowed me to give him Reiki.  Oliver seemed to know I was there to help him. He would lay down on his back exposing the area of his leg that appeared injured.  Each day Oliver was getting better, experiencing less discomfort, and had only a slight limp by the time his folks returned from vacation.

My heart’s desire is to reach as many people as possible to teach “Healing Yourself with Reiki” for self-care as well as learning how to give Reiki to others.  We all have the ability to heal ourselves.  We just need an initiation (to begin a Reiki practice) or also referred to in today’s world as an *attunement to tune into our abilities to heal.

*A Reiki Attunement is the process for a Reiki Master to pass on the Universal Energy to their Student so that they can use Reiki to heal themselves and others.
