Available Programs for July

It gives me great pleasure to partner Sussex Macaroni Kid with a wonderful organization within our community.  Project Self Sufficiency, located in Newton, is a valuable family resource that I praise for their commitment and mission in helping to improve the quality of life for our neighbors.  Faced with multiple strains of financial burden in today's society, I think we all can relate that times are tough.  Some more than others.  It's reassuring to know that organizations, like PSS, are locally supported, available and ready to assist.  Each month, I will be posting new information, supplied by PSS, that is open to families within Sussex County. 

Project Self Sufficiency is located at 127 Mill Street, Newton. 

Project Self-Sufficiency offers a variety of programs to support Sussex County families.  Coming in July:

Income-eligible pregnant women and new mothers are invited to receive visits in the comfort of their own home from trained counselors or nurses.  Get helpful education concerning prenatal care, breastfeeding, parenting, literacy, household skills, budgeting, relationships and more.  Call Project Self-Sufficiency’s Home Visitation Hotline at 973-940-3511 for more information. 

Learn how to detect and prevent child sexual assault at a free Enough Abuse training session, Wednesday, July 16th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Recommended for teens, as well as coaches, teachers and other youth-serving adults.  Participation is free, but registration is required.

Bring the whole family to Family Fun Night, Thursdays, July 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and August 1st, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  Classic family movies, craft projects, games and other fun activities.  Refreshments provided.  Free; registration required.  Call 973-940-3500 to register. 

Free Family Law Seminar, Wednesday, July 2nd, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Learn about grounds for divorce, court procedures, alimony, equitable distribution of assets, parenting time and other topics.  Call 973-940-3500 to register. 

Income-eligible women are invited to rejuvenate their employability skills with the Summer Office Skills Program at Project Self-Sufficiency.  Learn Microsoft Office applications, get assistance with resumes, cover letters, job search techniques, and interviewing skills, and receive on-the-job work experience at a community workplace.  Program will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8th – August 28th, 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 

High quality fresh, refrigerated or frozen food can be purchased at a fraction of the retail cost through the Jolin Food Box program at Project Self-Sufficiency.  Purchase online with a credit card at www.jolinfoodbox.com by Monday, July 14th.  Delivery will be made to Project Self-Sufficiency on Saturday, July 26th.  A variety of ordering options are available; SNAP accepted.  Call 973-940-3500 with questions. 

Children ages 5 – 10 are invited to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts through games, crafts, music and more at Project Vacation, Monday – Friday, August 4th – 8th, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  $10 per child; space is limited and registration is required.  Call 973-940-3500 to register.
