Upcoming Programs, Events and Activities

Project Self-Sufficiency offers a variety of programs to support Sussex County families.  Happening in February:

 

  • Project Sussex Kids, The Sussex County Council for Young Children, has been established by the New Jersey Department of Children & Families to bring together parents, caregivers, as well as health, education and social service providers to enhance communication, coordination and collaboration of services for families with young children.  We want to hear your concerns!  Meetings forming now!  Check it out at www.projectsussexkid.org.  Get involved by contacting Project Sussex Kids at sussexkids@projectselfsufficiency.org.
  • Campus to Campus College Assistance Program offered in conjunction with Sussex County Community College supports adults as they take the next step towards college and a career.  Get help with testing, test anxiety support, application forms, financial aid, childcare, and more.  Campus to Campus Information Sessions scheduled on February 2nd and 4th, and February 9th and 11th, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; evening sessions also available, February 2nd and 9th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  College IS for you!  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to get started.
  • The Higher Opportunities for Women (HOW) pre-employment training program helps prepare participants for entry-level office positions.  Receive computer training, job search preparation skills, and on-the-job experience at a community workplace.  Build self-confidence while you add marketable skills to your resume!  Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 2nd – May 26th, 9:30 – 3:00 p.m.  Childcare available.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 for more information.
  • Sussex Warren Project Family Connect is established at Project Self-Sufficiency!  If you’re a Sussex or Warren County, New Jersey, resident, connecting with the help you need just got easier. Sussex-Warren Project Family Connect Central Intake has been funded by the New Jersey Department of Health to improve the quality and services coordination for individuals and families to increase access to community resources.  Call our hotline at 1-844-807-3500 to speak with a Family Support Worker who can assist you in connecting with local resources such as healthcare, transportation, life skills development, employment training, case management, voluntary home visitation and more!
  • Income-eligible pregnant women and new mothers are invited to receive visits in the comfort of their own home from trained counselors or nurses.  Get helpful education concerning prenatal care, breastfeeding, parenting, literacy, household skills, budgeting, relationships and more.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 for more information.
  • Pregnant women and mothers of young children are invited to discuss prenatal, childhood and adult issues at monthly Mother-Child Lunch & Learn gatherings.  On Tuesday, February 11th, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., the subject will be “How to Avoid Partnering with a Jerk.”  Free; participants must be enrolled in one of Project Self-Sufficiency’s home visitation programs.  Registration is easy!  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 for a schedule and more information.
  • Project Self-Sufficiency Career Center offers new classes designed to maximize personal and professional skills, while combining career assessments, training and access to employment opportunities. Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to enroll in “Career, Education & Employment Foundations” or “Foundations for Personal Success.”  Classes forming now.
  • Get free legal advice at Project Self-Sufficiency.  Private meetings with an attorney are available to income-eligible Sussex County residents, by appointment only, on Thursdays, February 4th – 25th, between 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  To register, call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500.
  • A free Family Law Seminar will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Project Self-Sufficiency.  Discuss grounds for divorce, court procedures, equitable distribution of assets, parenting time, and other topics related to divorce.  Free and open to the public; registration required.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to register.
  • A free Bankruptcy Seminar will be held on Wednesday, February 17th, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Learn about the options available to those facing asset repossession, foreclosure or overwhelming credit card debt.  Free and open to the public; registration required.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to register.
  • High quality fresh, refrigerated or frozen food can be purchased at a fraction of the retail cost through the Jolin Food Box program at Project Self-Sufficiency.  Purchase online with a credit card at www.jolinfoodbox.com by Wednesday, February 10th.  Delivery will be made to Project Self-Sufficiency on Saturday, February 20th.  A variety of ordering options are available; call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 with questions.
  • Parents, educators, coaches and other youth-serving professionals or volunteers are invited to learn about child sexual assault prevention at free Enough Abuse training sessions, Wednesday, February 10th, at 10:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.  Free and open to the public; registration required.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to register.
  • Free Family Fun Nights are available for local families at Project Self-Sufficiency!  Watch classic family films, enjoy crafts, games, refreshments and more.  Thursday, February 25th, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.  Call 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to register.
